On December 17th, the 2023 Thăng Long School closing ceremony took place with extensive participation from students, parents, and teachers. This year, 548 children and young teenagers from underprivileged backgrounds received support for their education, honing their skills through English, IT, vocational training courses, and other art-related classes.
The event wasn’t solely a celebration of academically excellent students but also a showcase of their efforts and achievements. In the bustling atmosphere of the early morning, a group of Art class students arrived, dressed up and prepared for their performance, supported by two young adults who recently graduated from a hairstyling training course. Furthermore, during the speech by the saigonchildren’s Executive Director, a lovely student from the English class assisted in translating the text into Vietnamese for the audience’s understanding.
Ngô Đức Tuấn, who attended the TOEIC exam and attained the highest score among English class students last year (950/990), delivered a speech.
“First of all, I would like to send my warm greetings to all present here today. I am Ngo Duc Tuan, from the TOEIC class, and I have been with this school for 5 years. It is truly an honor for me to come here as a student representative, having achieved the highest TOEIC score of 950 this year. However, this achievement is not mine alone. It is the result of the relentless efforts and continuous support from the excellent team at Thang Long School, who have guided and supported me on the path to success.
To truly appreciate the significant contribution of the school, I would like to tell about my own story when I was in 5 years ago. I was a freshman in high school at that time, and for me, English was just a compulsory subject that I had to study and take exams in. Due to this approach, I lacked efforts in studying, resulting in a decline in my academic performance. It was then that I decided to enrol in English classes at Thăng Long school with the hope of improving my grades.
Upon attending my first class, I was pleasantly surprised by the English teaching methods here. The once dry and dull knowledge became fresh and enjoyable when we applied it through various activities with teachers. Rather than passive learning, we engaged in self-learning through many exercises that required active participation and constant interaction.
These new and exciting experiences didn’t end there. My classmates and I had the opportunity to go on field trips organised by the school to learn essential soft skills that were not covered in regular high school classes, which created many memorable moments during my youth.
Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to Saigon Children’s Charity CIO for providing opportunities for children like me to have a genuine educational experience and a healthy learning environment. The deepest appreciation to Thang Long School for helping me become who I am today and to my fellow students who have accompanied me on the journey of self-improvement.”
As the ceremony drew to a close with a singing performance by a duo from the Singing class, each student with outstanding achievements stepped onto the stage to receive their certificates of merit, a token of recognition, and took commemorative photos.
